How To Find Subway Stops In China Using Baidu Maps

If you’re living in China, public transportation is abundant and cheap. Taxis are convenient but using them every day can be expensive. Riding the subway can be even faster than sitting in traffic in a taxi during rush hour. Sometimes locating bus stops or subway stops around you can be a challenge though. So, follow this tutorial on how to locate the subway stop nearest you using Baidu Maps.

Step 1: Download The App

First you will need to download the app from any of the major app stores in China:

Apple’s App Store
Baidu App Market (百度手机助手)
Tencent App Store (应用宝)
XiaoMi App Store (小米应用商店)
Google Play

Type in the pinyin “Baidu Ditu”. Download the app shown in the picture, (微信).

You should also be able to find the app using other keywords like map, Baidu, ditu, and 地图.

This tutorial’s screenshots will be based on the UI from the Android app, the method should be the exact same for IOS or other operating systems. Some UI changes might occur due to app updates over time.

Step 2: Home Screen

The home screen has a lot of things going on. We are just going to focus on what you need to know for finding the nearest subway stop. The blue dot is your real-time location.

Step 3: Search Bar

At the top of the map is the search bar.

Step 4: Search Screen

The search screen includes recommended destinations, search history, and some ads.

Step 5: Search For Subway Stop

In the search bar, you need to type using Chinese or pinyin. Enter one of the following phrase:

Subway station – (地铁站 - dì tiě zhàn)

The app uses auto-fill so you will see recommendations while typing.

Make sure you tap  "Subway Stop - 地铁站" to find the closest stop to your current location. If you only type "Subway - 地铁", Baidu Maps will show you the entire Beijing Subway Map - which is a convenient way to view the subway map, but not what we are looking for here.

These steps can also be used for finding the nearest bus stop as well.

Step 6: Search Results Map

The search results screen will look like this. These are all the subway stops around you. The red icons on the map represent the subway stops. The blue bar on the bottom provides you with information regarding each subway stop.
